Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD is proud to announce Delt Cockrell as the new Head Boys Track and Field Coach at Chisholm Trail High School.
This is his third year in EMS ISD, having spent the last two years at Ed Willkie Middle School. Before he begins coaching track and field, you can catch him on the gridiron coaching the Ranger inside linebackers.
“We are thrilled to have Coach Cockrell join the Chisholm Trail coaching staff,” Athletic Director Brent Barker said. “He was an outstanding student-athlete in school and has done a fantastic job at each of his prior stops. I’m looking forward to watching his continued success as a Ranger.”
Prior to coming to EMS ISD, Coach Cockrell was the Head Boys Track and Field Coach and an Assistant Football Coach for the Longhorns of Amarillo Caprock High School. In his 11-year career, the Longhorn football team were Bi-District finalists in 2013, and District/Bi-District finalists in 2018.
In track and field, he led his team to a district, area, and regional championship in 2015. In 2016, they clinched an area track and field championship.
His success in 2015 led to a nomination for the Boys Track and Field Regional Coach of the Year by the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame.
Growing up, Coach Cockrell was a standout athlete, competing in football, basketball, and track. He was a high school state champion in track, and three-year letterman in football. He graduated from Panhandle High School in 2002.
From there, he attended Abilene Christian University on a track scholarship. At the end of his collegiate career, he was a four year All-American, and a four-time National Champion sprinter. He graduated with his degree in Exercise Science.
“I am excited to join everyone at Chisholm Trail High School,” Coach Cockrell said. “The staff and kids have made me feel welcome, and I am ready to get to work on building a gold standard track and field program, and a dominate football team.”
Coach Cockrell and his wife Michelle have two kids, Parker (13) and Reighan (11). They all enjoy camping and traveling during their spare time.
Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District and Chisholm Trail High School are pleased to welcome Coach Cockrell to his new role and look forward to many more successful seasons ahead!
