Despite the deep freeze, the Rangers were on fire last Thursday as they competed against a great many teams at the district tournament. Both boys and girls' teams performed extraordinarily well and brought home several medals as a result.
On the gentlemen's side of the gym, Chaz Marone, Ethan Orat, and Quaylon Mason took gold in their respective weight classes and secured their place amongst the athletes traveling to regionals. Combined with the efforts of teammates Caleb Campos, Justin Perry, Jaylen Martin, and Taeveon Johnson, the boys in purple managed to gather enough points for a fifth place finish.
For the ladies, a talented team of 13 girls stepped on to the mat and fought their way to a silver medal as a team. 12 of the 13 representatives punched their ticket to attend regionals, with Hayven Pierotti and Kylee Guereca leading the way with district championship wins, followed closely by Natalie Garcia, Alysa Sanchez, and Onyx Ngilo, Hailey Aguirre, Sophia Martinez, and Anaseini Tupou with second place finishes. Madyson Rust, Chloe Jackson, Elsie Langford, and Adeline Quick secured fourth, and Emma Eguiluz rounding out the dozen in fifth.
All of these top-notch wrestlers will be headed to the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center for the regional tournament on Friday, February 6th, and Saturday, February 7th.
