Delt Cockrell

Delt Cockrell takes over the reins of the boys track and field program at Chisholm Trail High school, following the retirement of Brent Brevard. This is his third year in EMS ISD, having spent the prior two years at Ed Willkie Middle School. Before he begins coaching track, you can catch him on the gridiron coaching the Ranger inside linebackers.

Prior to coming to EMS ISD, Coach Cockrell was the Head Boys Track and Field Coach and an Assistant Football Coach for the Longhorns of Amarillo Caprock High School. In his 11-year career there, the Longhorn football team were Bi-District finalists in 2013, and District/Bi-District finalists in 2018. In track and field, he led his team to a district, area, and regional championship in 2015. In 2016, they clinched an area track and field championship. His success in 2015 led to a nomination for the Boys Track and Field Regional Coach of the Year by the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame.

Growing up, Coach Cockrell was a standout athlete, competing in football, basketball, and track. He was a high school state champion in track, and three-year letterman in football. He graduated from Panhandle High School in 2002. From there, he attended Abilene Christian University on a track scholarship. At the end of his collegiate career, he was a four year All-American, and a four-time National Champion sprinter. He graduated with his degree in Exercise Science.

Coach Cockrell and his wife Michelle have two kids, Parker and Reighan. They all enjoy camping and traveling during their spare time.
