Jeff Garmon

Coach Jeff Garmon is the inaugural gymnastics coach at Chisholm Trail High School and currently coaches the gymnastics teams for Ed Willkie and Marine Creek Middle schools.

Coach Garmon has been involved with the sport of gymnastics since 1984, his freshman year of high school. He competed for four years on Lakeview Centennial’s varsity gymnastics team and served as the team captain in 1988 when they won the State Championship title for THSGCA. During high school, his teams qualified for the State meet three years in a row, finishing 3rd in 1986, 2nd in 1987 and State Champions in 1988. In his senior season, he made event finals on Rings, High Bar, Vault and Floor finishing in the top 6 in each event. Additionally, he competed on club gymnastics teams, Flippers Inc. and Metroplex Gymnastics.

From 1988 – 1991, he competed on the Longhorn Gymnastics Team at The University of Texas in Austin. As a freshman, he won the Texas Gymnastics Conference Championship All-Around Title in 1989; And, in 1990, his team won the Division III Club Collegiate National Championships.

Coach Garmon began coaching gymnastics in the summer of 1989 as a boy's gymnastics coach for Flippers, Inc. He went on to coach girl’s gymnastics at Crenshaw’s Athletic Club in Austin from 1990-1992. From 1993 – 2003, he coached boy's and girl's gymnastics for Golden Triangle Gymnastics in Denton. From 2004-2012, he was the boy's and the girl's head coach for all of Keller ISD, which included Keller, Fossil Ridge, Central, and Timber Creek high schools. In that time, he has had nine different students chosen for the Texas Senior National Team, one state all-around champion, 18 different individual state qualifiers that finished in the top 10 in the State, and five girls teams qualify to the State meet finishing third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and ninth.

In 13 years of coaching, the Texas High School Gymnastics Coaches Association has honored him twice as the Region IV Coach of the Year, in 2004 and in 2006. In 2007 and 2010 the THSGCA voted him the State Coach of the Year and in 2009, he was selected as the Assistant Boy’s Head Coach for the Team Texas Senior National meet in Chicago, Illinois.

In his first three years at EMS ISD, he has had a gymnast that was the Back-to-Back District All-Around Champion; that finished 3rd Place All-Around in 2014 Regionals; that finished 20th Place All-Around at the 2013 State meet; that finished 10th Place All-Around at the 2014 State Meet; and that was selected as a member of the 2015 Team Texas that competed in Nationals in Ft. Myers, Florida, based on her performance at the 2015 THSGCA State Meet. In 2016, he had his 2nd gymnast qualify to the THSGCA State meet on the Floor Exercise. In 2020, one of his gymnasts was a second team all-state selection on the vault. At least one of his gymnasts has reached the state meet every year that he's been at Chisholm Trail. 

His wife, Tommi Lynn Garmon, has been the foundation of their successful marriage and his strongest supporter of his coaching career. They have twin daughters, Allyson and Elizabeth, and another daughter, named Summer. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from the University of North Texas. He earned his teaching certification in secondary math, through ECAP in 2001.
