Rodney McFadden

Rodney “Coach Mac” McFadden is the head boys basketball coach at Chisholm Trail. In his first year at the helm, the Rangers were district runner-ups and won the second most games (23) in school history.

Coach Mac is a graduate of Conroe High School where he was a two-year starter for the varsity basketball team and All-District selection. He was a four-year letter winner as a point guard for the men’s basketball program at Tarleton State University (1987-1991). McFadden then served as a defensive specialist and helped the Texans to three consecutive conference championships while serving as co-captain for two years.

Coach Mac began his coaching career at Denton Ryan High School as the Junior Varsity boys basketball coach. His first team went 21-5 and won the District Championship. After two years at Ryan, he was fortunate to spend nine great years as the Head Coach for the O.D. Wyatt girls basketball program where he compiled a 189-91 record. During his tenure, his teams reached the playoffs the last seven years. During that period, they won 63 consecutive district games, 4 undefeated district championships, and 4 consecutive regional tournament appearances. After his time with the girls program, he was presented with the challenge of resurrecting the O.D. Wyatt boys program that had failed to reach the playoffs for 15 straight years. He coached the boys for nine years, guiding the program to four playoff appearances and one regional tournament appearance.

While coaching the girls basketball program at Chisholm Trail, the program reached several milestones while establishing the Lady Rangers as a force within the District. The Lady Rangers have made the playoffs for three years, reached 20 wins for the first time in school history, had their first full basketball scholarship athlete, and graduated many All-District and Academic All-District players.

During his head coaching career, Coach Mac has been selected Coach of the Year five times by his peers. His teams have made the playoffs 14 out of 25 years while accumulating over 400 victories. McFadden has had over 50 All-District selections, 5 District MVPs, 9 All-Region selections, 3 All-State selections, and over 40 former players who have graduated from college, which is his proudest achievement.

Coach Mac is married to the love of his life, Misty, and the proud father of a beautiful daughter Raven, and two sons Terreck and Brayden. Next to God, his family is everything.
